Diet tips for yoga practitioners
It is not necessary to follow any type of diet if you just want to practice yoga. However, you will soon notice that your body needs a different kind of food. A traditional yogi diet is vegan or lacto-vegetarian. You might try following these diet tips and see if they work for you. Yogis divide food into sattvic, tamasic and rajasic. Sattvic food is what our bodies need most. It"s fresh, pure, unprocessed, and it gives you a lot of energy. Examples include honey, nuts, seeds, beans, whole grains, vegetables and fruit as well as dairy products. Tamasic food is considered impure and depraved of taste. Alcohol, fast food such as burgers and chips, canned beans and vegetables are all tamasic. Sattvic food can easily become tamasic if it goes bad. Rajasic food is the most stimulating, and it often tastes sour or spicy. Some examples include meat, eggs, tea and coffee, onion, garlic or curry. Sometimes they are necessary to stimulate your body, but if you eat too much of rajasic food, you might feel nervous and restless. These are only diet tips, of course, and having some beer or a strong coffee from time to time will make no harm. The main idea is to find way for you so that your body and mind stays healthy.
